SPAZA SHOPS BEYOND COVID-19

Shoprite took a decision to introduce Usave eKasi store which will get them to be closer to the community (consumers).

About 3 years ago, Ekurhuleni saw 2 Usave containers being introduced.

Then, 5 days ago Finance Minister said something in regards to Spaza beyond COVID-19.

“Every spaza shop must be registered with a licence to operate and more importantly for me, must have a bank account and a tax number,” Mboweni said.

He said these shop owners must be willing to open their doors for inspection by the department of health.

“So there is going to be a new way of doing things and I think we stand ready to play our part as the ministry of finance,” Mboweni said.

Our aim is to contribute towards sustainable economic development, improvement of people’s skills, and their institutions.

If we fail to organise and rethinking how we do business, then we will remain in the status quo we were before COVID-19.

We will be working with Bookkeeping Fundamentals for their compliance, bookkeeping, and accounting services and SBOBA advocating and lobbying for local black businesses supporting each other through meaningful economical activities.

We are starting a campaign to collect a database of Spaza Shops so that we can make sure they do the correct thing and not miss economic opportunities beyond COVID 19.

EFFECTIVE VOLUNTEERISM

We can’t continue to be comfortable seeing volunteers who spend 3 years within the organization but dololo personal and career growth because the nonprofit organization has no effective volunteer program that will make sure that the partnership between the nonprofit organization, leaders responsible to manage volunteers and volunteer understand each other and all should benefit in this relationship.
Think about why people volunteer. Understand your volunteers. What you can offer in return_ Have a strong foundation to build your volunteering programme. Think carefully about why you are using voluntee (1)

EFFECTIVE VOLUNTEERISM

If your organization has volunteered, it is key to understand that volunteers are not there because they have failed in life but because they want to seek opportunities to gain skills, knowledge, and experience while they also serve their community their current knowledge, skill, and experience.

Volunteers play a meaningful role in addressing the social injustice within our communities.

So, it is important that we design effective volunteerism programs within or organizations.

Remember, volunteers are not tools to be used but human beings to be engaged.

As a volunteer is it important not to get too comfortable and start working towards your personal development goals and to grow within that organization and your career life while investing your time as a volunteer.

Use your volunteer time as an opportunity to explore career options, gain training and professional development. Volunteering is a great way to experience first-hand what a potential position in a partic (1)

Remember, volunteering can be part-time.

So, this week we want to focus on effective volunteerism.

NPO Act 1997

NPO Act 1997
To provide for an environment in which nonprofit organisations can flourish; to establish an administrative and regulatory framework within which nonprofit organisations can conduct their affairs; to repeal certain portions of the Fundraising Act, 1978; and to provide for matters connected therewith. Dec 3, 1997.
The NPO Act highlighted the relations the Department had with NPOs. One of those was to register NPOs, and then insert them into the national database. As of last week, the number of registered NPOs had increased to 197 000. Of this number, only 20% were compliant. Most of the registered NPOs were found in Gauteng, followed by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The least were found in the Northern Cape. This is what was said during the Non-Profit Organisation’s capacitation and compliance with NPO Act: NDS & DSD briefing at National Assembly, Social Development Committe, 22 August 2018.
We then taught we should share the below information as we work within space/industry.
